Dressing Your Truth Interview – Part II

Click here for the first part of this interview.

According to the Dressing Your Truth beauty profiling system, only type 4′s (carbon, or earth) should wear black.  ”Get Out!” you say.  Let me explain the reason behind this.  The base element for type 4′s, carbon, is reflected in the natural world by very still things.  A mountain, a glassy lake, ice.  And due to this very still nature, only type 4 energy can truly be expressed by black, or white, or really saturated, primary or neon colors.  These colors are considered still, and very powerful.  And if you’re of a bubbly, or soft nature, black will not reflect that of you if you’re wearing it.

Black is a tough one though.  So many of us live by the mantra that black is slimming.  Why wouldn’t you wear black?  And, for some women, it works!  But, are they all type 4 women?  Watch the video below to see a woman presenting herself as a type 4 madeover to present herself as the type 1, bright and animated energy that is her dominant expression (remember, she has type 4 in her, but type 1 is the leader of her energy pack).

Amber is a type 4, and wearing black is, as they say, “true to her nature”.  Let’s continue on with her interview.

5. Did you initially struggle with or disagree with anything laid out for you about your Beauty Type and how you should be presenting yourself?

My struggles do not necessarily lay with the program itself, but in trying to find peace with who I am as a Type 4, and perfecting that process; it is my nature to be critical, perfecting, and thorough.  Each type is beautiful and each type offers incredible gifts; but each type has also been told that there is something “wrong” with a part of their nature, either by society, family, friends, or others.  Much of my nature has been seen negatively by others – as being too bold, critical, unemotional, etc.  So, my struggle has been in finding the beauty in those aspects of my nature, and the gifts that they really can be.

I didn’t struggle much with the “beauty” side of things.  The clothing, colors, structure, design line, etc, all resonated with me at a deep level.  I find it very comforting and easy; I feel like myself.  As a Type 4 I get to wear black, as it supports my still nature, and I have to admit that I was SO glad when I discovered that.  I LOVE black!

6. Do you feel the knowledge was worth the price you paid for the course?

As I stated earlier, the course itself is not an all-encompassing, stand-alone resource, so, if that was all I was offered, I might balk at the cost.  All of the other resources though, the monthly club nights, photos, emails, groups, etc, are worth much more than I paid for the program.  Also, they are always having sales on the course itself.  So, in a nutshell – YES.

7. Would you recommend this program to ANY woman in your life?

YES!  This course has changed my life.  It has changed the way I view myself, other women, and my place in the world.  I now see my “flaws” as gifts, I have been validated in my nature, and it is so easy for me to see the individual beauty in other women.  I would share this with the world if it were possible. :)

8. What is your favorite thing you’ve learned from your Beauty Type course? Be as specific as you like.

I absolutely love this program.  After going through it I felt like I could finally exhale – in relief.  I felt like I was seen and validated.  All the oddities that I thought I needed to change or were wrong, are just part of my nature, and they are things to be celebrated, not hidden.  I’ve met some amazing people, have gained incredible insight into who I am as a women, and have an easier time interacting with others (men & women).  I now know what to wear, what colors to choose, etc that support my nature. Shopping has become a breeze and a joy!  I didn’t know that was possible! ;)

It’s hard to put into words what this program has done for me.  It’s not just a beauty profiling system, there are tons of those, this is all encompassing – bringing in makeup, clothes, colors, structure, etc, that support our beautiful inner natures, so that inner beauty can be seen on the outside.  When I see women who are dressing their truth, they absolutely shine, I think that is a huge gift to the world. What could be better than a community full of women who feel validated, beautiful, supported and confident?  The thought makes me smile.

I did the Dressing Your Truth course in December and am also a Type 4 (for real, not just because I wanted to wear black ;) . Pretty sure I heard about it for the first time on Full Clutch, and I love that you are starting to incorporate it more. Totally agree with everything Amber said. It can be scary to admit that a lot of clothes in your wardrobe are beautiful on the hanger, just not on you. But I feel like I’ve come un-stuck in a lot of areas in my life since I started following DYT, not just my wardrobe. It gave me courage to be more honest with myself about who I am and what I want. Plus it’s nice that all my clothes go together now instead of being a mish-mash of styles like they were before. It makes getting dressed in the morning and packing for trips so much easier. This is my genuine experience and I swear I am not affiliated with DYT in any way!

Emily, it’s really great to hear that you’re finding success with the Dressing Your Truth program! Truth be told, I’ve not stuck to it as well as I should, but I am most comfortable in the clothes that compliment type 2′s. It’s been fun, but challenging, to completely embrace the change. I’m so glad it’s been such an eye-opener for you. Congrats!

Emily, have you joined the private T4 facebook group? It’s a great resource!

I am now :) Thanks for the suggestion! I also like the pinterest boards that people have created for the different types. I created my own private board so I could re-pin ideas. Highly recommend.
