Best Moisturizers for Dry Skin

I have dry skin year round, but it’s especially bad in the wintertime. It’s taken me a long time to find a moisturizer that works, but my current standby is Paula’s Choice Skin Recovery Daily Moisturizing Lotion SPF 15 – $20.95. I wrote about Paula Begoun in a post heralding her website Beautypedia, several weeks ago. She not only writes reviews of other company’s products, but she creates and sells her own. If you’re skeptical of trusting a businessperson who reviews the wares of other companies while hawking her own…I was right there with you. But, because of her money back guarantee (valid within 60 days of purchase), I gave her products a try–cleansers, toners, moisturizers. And I’ve been really happy with them, especially this moisturizer which is for normal/dry/very dry skin. It’s a thick lotion, but it absorbs easily and cleanly into the skin. It has SPF protection, which is so important for day wear, and it’s also packed with anti-oxidants, those wrinkle-fighting wonder ingredients. Occasionally my skin is still a little dry even after applying this moisturizer, but most days it works really well. Right now Paula’s Choice is having a 25% off all cleansers and toners, and free shipping if you spend $50.

Recently I went on a trip and forgot my beloved moisturizer. I was a little panicked because I must have lotion for my face or I walk around with a flaking, red visage. So I ran over to the closest drugstore and bought several moisturizers for dry skin, using the opportunity to explore newer products I’ve not used before. The star of the group was a bottle of Burt’s Bees Sensitive Daily Moisturizing Cream – $14.99. I’d checked the reviews on Beautypedia first, which labeled this as a “GOOD”, though not “BEST”, product. I was really pleased with it. Apparently, their (small) beef is that this product contains a large amount of zinc oxide, which “can feel too heavy occlusive.” I think that could be true if you have normal skin. But for people like me, who have consistently dry skin, this felt great. It actually felt very light coming out of the pump, and it absorbed quickly. I was so impressed with this product, it’s really a toss up for me between the Burt’s Bees and the Paula’s Choice.
