Red Carpet Jewelry

Oscar night is full of excitement.  Beautiful gowns, lovely ladies, handsome men, obnoxious entertainment correspondents, and loads of jewels most of us will never be able to afford.  If the bling made you pea-green with envy, keep reading.  We found some affordable knockoffs that will make you feel like a winner.

Earrings–Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain, this year’s It Girl who was everywhere (seriously, does she get more hours in a day than the rest of us?) wore a black and gold gown, which she accented with gorgeous yellow diamond teardrop earrings.  I suspect there was a large man with an ear piece and access to backup help at any moment who followed her around to make sure no one tried anything funny near those gems.

Yellow Tear Drop Dangle Earrings – $50

...these, not so much.

No access to a bodyguard?  Try the sparklers above.  Definitely for a fancy-pants occasion.  Pair with a little black dress, an up-do, and keep the rest of your jewelry to a minimum, if at all.

Earrings–Viola Davis

Although the peanut gallery was torn about Viola’s dress with its unusual silhouette, the earrings she chose were definitely on-trend.  The soft shade of green next to the gold detailing is beautiful.  This little birdie heard a stylist talking about how the earrings were actually pieced together from two different pairs to make something totally new just for Ms. Davis.

Kenneth Jay Lane – $89.99

A simpler version of Viola's.

What’s that?  You don’t have a stylist to custom make jewelry for you?  Kidding.  These are much simpler but it’s the same idea–lovely shade of green paired with gold hardware, plus that double-drop shape.  Enjoy!

Bracelet–Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth’s whole look was divine.  Simple, modern, clean,  inspired by men’s style–it really worked well for her (and especially her body type, a great example of dressing to fit your shape).  The cuff she wore on her right wrist topped off the look.  This bracelet managed to combine a bit of sparkle with a lot of structure.  The result is feminine and contemporary.

Simply Chic Hinge Cuff – $24 and Macy’s Catherine Stein Bracelet – $33

Silver or sparkly. Take your pick.

Here are two options that echo the elements of Gwyneth’s cuff.  The pick on the left is minimalist and chic.  Wear with classic, tailored, simple clothing, like an Oxford shirt.  The pick on the right is flashier.  Wear for an evening out with sassy heels.

Necklace–Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams has been knocking it out of the park this awards season.  She always looks young and fresh with her cute haircut, stunning makeup, and wise dress choices.  She usually opts for minimal jewelry, and even when she’s sporting a load of diamonds around her neck, it still seems restrained somehow.

Charter Club Necklace, Heirloom Collar – $54

Simply gorgeous.

Okay, not quite as simple a Michelle’s necklace, but pretty darn close.  This necklace features small horseshoe-shaped links, set closely together.  It’s hard to tell from the photo, but if the links are small enough, you could wear this necklace with anything, even jeans.  And of course, dressing it up is easy as can be–just make sure you have a nice scoop neck or strapless dress to show off these gems in the proper way.
