Spring 2013 London Fashion with Boden

Boden is to the UK as J. Crew is to the US.  Fashion forward cuts, bright colors and textures, and great styling suggestions.  But Boden can also be to the US as J. Crew is, seeing as they have a Boden USA website, complete with $10 flat rate shipping and a $7 return shipping fee (if you use their smart label).  Unlike J. Crew, things aren’t perpetually 25-30% off (or at least that’s how it worked last year).  But, you can get great deals from Boden.  For example, if you received their most current Spring 2013 catalog, you got a one time use code good for buy 4 items, get the least expensive item for $1, and shipping is free.  Or, on their website take advantage of the “Weekly Offers“, allowing discounts on a curated collection.

So, what does Boden have up it’s sleeve for this spring season?  Let’s take a look at some favorites…

Amelie Dress – $148

Boden Amelie Dress

This dress comes in a plain black version, but the striped version (comes in two color options) is too pretty to pass up.  Horizontal stripes on the sleeves, chevron in the middle, and then the random stripes thrown in along the length of the skirt make this dress utterly unique (unless you and a friend both buy one and show up at the same place).  At 54% wool this dress is perfect right now, or for cooler spring days.  Almost all positive reviews.

Photographer Jacket – $83.30 ($98)

Photographer Jacket

From the reviews, it sounds like this jacket might work best for curvier bodies; it’s a bit too boxy for smaller frames.  I really love the outfit it’s paired with above, but it’s also available in navy, mauve, and white.  Almost 100% cotton and machine washable.  Since the jacket has a cropped length, it will likely work for petites, but should probably be sized down.  Part of this weeks discounted “Weekly Offers”.  Get the look by adding the Lightweight Scarf, Hand Beaded Pretty Top, and Skinny Ankle Skimmer Jeans.

The Shirt – $58

Boden The Shirt

This fitted button up shirt is a great garment to have on hand to pair with jeans anytime.  Colorful belts and shoes can add to the look.  You can fold up the contrasting cuffs for another pattern element if desired.  Be warned, some reviews complained of sheerness, so be prepared to wear a cami underneath.  Available in several colors/patterns.  Get the look above by adding the Pointed Slingbacks, Skinny Belt, and Bistro Crop Trousers.

Strappy Sandals – $78

Boden Strappy Sandals

Spring can not get here fast enough.  That’s all I’m saying.  Wait, one more thing… available in five colors.

Canonbury Skirt – $78

Canonbury Skirt

This cotton/linen chambray blend skirt sits at the waist and has a flattering a-line shape.  The front inverted pleat breaks the skirt up visually.  A great fabric for warmer weather wear.  Four different options available.

Bistro Crop Trousers – $88-$138

Bistro Crop Trousers

I say cafe, you say bistro.  On this side of the pond these are known as the Cafe Capri from J. Crew.  Boden offers their Bistro Crop Trouser in several different colors, and a few pattern options.  Nothing quite as shiny as those Cafe Capris can get though.

Skater Dress – $148

Skater Dress

A flattering dress, and that navy with the multi color design is a great choice for spring and summer.  The self fabric belt is detachable, and the dress itself is semi fitted.  Pair with chunky brown sandals and brown purse, as shown.  100% viscose, machine washable.

Ballerina Wedges – $118

Ballerina Wedges

Sweet ballerinas with the addition of a small wedge.  There are only a few color options available, with the metallic one’s pictured being the loudest.  Also available in a navy and a red suede, each paired with a neutral bow, piping, and wedge (think camel).  Will look great with pretty much anything you put on your bottom half.

Blenheim Blazer – $98

Blenheim Blazer

Finally, a very stylish blazer, or at least it looks so from the picture.  Lots of reviews complain that this blazer is cut a bit too boxy, but sizing down brings the sleeves up too high.  It’s a shame, because there are some great fabric options available, like “Driftwood Doves”.  Do you happen to own this blazer?  Happy or dissatisfied with it?  Please tell us about it in the comments, or shoot us an email!

*Word of advice on Boden sizing–Beth has purchased Boden in the past and found that sizes run large.  Also, she says most of the consumer reviews on the site ended up being accurate for the garments she purchased.
