Jewelry Inspired by the 2013 Oscars

The 2013 Academy Awards were a great night for fashion. Unlike the SAG awards, where it seemed dark and dreary colors reigned, and so many stars wore the same tired mermaid silhouette, this was an event for bright hues and bold textures, patterns, and shapes. Three of my personal favorites last night were Stacy Keibler, Kerry Washington, and Charlize Theron. Let’s take another look at their ensembles. And while we’re at it, since most of us can’t afford such glamorous frocks, we can have a bit of their style with some jewelry that takes its inspiration from these gowns.

Stacy Keibler

There was so much texture and detail in Stacy Keibler’s gown. It’s hard to tell what it was made of, exactly. It looked almost like ropes of chains on a black netted background, but someone mentions sequins in the video above. At any rate, the texture, draping, and amazing shape of this dress made it one of the best of the night.

Like I mentioned above, this dress almost looked like it was chainmail from a distance. Just a fabulous mix of femininty and harder edge, which can be found in this Hema Panther Chains – $32 necklace from Bauble Bar. Another great take on the gunmetal tone, this time with sequines are these fun Wide Ombre Chain Fringe Earrings – $26.90.

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington looked like a beautiful jewel last night. I loved that coral color–so vibrant and stunning–along with the detailed, bedazzled top of the dress. Just amazing.

It’s going to take all my willpower to stay away from this Blu Bijoux Coral Austrian Crystal Cocktail Ring – $30. This ring has the beauty of coral and crystal with the unexpected edginess of those gold-tone spikes holding the stone. A great anytime bracelet is the Anne Klein Bauble Bracelet – $48. This bracelet could easily transition from work to play, and also has the coral/crystal theme.

Charlize Theron

White is hard to get away with in an evening gown. You could end up looking like a bride if it’s not done correctly. Ms. Theron took a page from Gwyneth Paltrow’s 2012 Oscars ensemble, and hit it out of the ballpark. Bright white, clean lines, not a smidge of excess frill or fuss. This is what gets me excited about fashion–the simplest color, the simplest sihouette can be reimagined to look brand new and fresh.

I’ve never bought anything from Nicole Richie’s brand, but this House of Harlow White Sand Leather Station – $75 has me intrigued. The leather is beautifully textured with small dots, connected by gold plated links and chain. The Ivory Dot Cuff – $34 is another simple, clean piece, with gold dot detailing.

Another awards season has bit the dust. Boo-hoo, and until next year!
