March Makeup Madness – Drafting In The Newbies

featured photo credit

We’ve been having so much fun this week playing off the NCAA tournament, with the starting lineup and benched players of our makeup drawers. Today we’re happy to bring you our draft picks. Writing day in and day out about beauty products means we always have our eye on some new eye shadow or moisturizer. Today we share those items with you. What makeup products are we itching to try in the coming months? You’re about to find out…

Beth’s Draft Picks

Milani Ultrafine Liquid Eye Liner in Black Vinyl – $7.49

MilaniEyeLiner

After being teased by the Eyeko eyeliner which seemed so promising at first and then broke my heart, I wanted to give liquid eyeliner love another try. Blogger Cristina of Let Them Have Polish recently reviewed some new Milani eye makeup, so I popped on over to Walgreens to pick up this liner in Black Vinyl. It looks like a similar wand to the Eyeko, with a felt tip pen. I’m crossing my fingers that it works better.

Cult Nails Nail Polish in Princess – $12

CultNailsPrincess

I did it. I ordered another three bottles of Cult Nails nail polish. I have no control. But there was a sale! 20% off 3 bottles or more! It was practically irresponsible not to…because I knew eventually I’d want to add more Cult Nails to my collection. Hey, do you think this is why the brand is called Cult Nails? Because people get sucked into a worshipful vortex of all that beautiful, shimmering color? The three bottles should arrive by this weekend, among them this delicate blue with copper colored shimmer, called Princess. A perfect pastel for spring!

New York Streets Dry Shampoo – $10.40

NYStreetsDryShampoo

This just arrived yesterday in a Beauty Army shipment. I’ve been trying to find a dry shampoo forever. A Birchbox shipment last year had one that was decent, but not amazing. I’m hoping the fact that this is in a spray will make a difference. I recently read a post by a blogger who said she washes her hair every 10 days. Every 10 days? What? I’m never going to get there, but it would be nice to switch to every other day. Here’s hoping this spray helps me do it.

NYX Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Shocking Pink – $5.99

NYXMatteLipstick

I’ve been digging the matte lipstick trend. I’ve also been digging all the bright colors on everyone’s lips–what a nice change after so many years of pale pinks and glosses. Recently I started wearing a fuchsia lip which I love, but I saw this photo of Jessica Raine and it made me crazy to find a more purple fuchsia lipstick. Doesn’t Ms. Raine look amazing? Her makeup is perfection in this photo. Also, she’s the star of my new favorite PBS show–Call the Midwife–which I highly recommend and will be writing up soon in a “Love It” post (stay tuned). Anyway, I’m going to give NYX Cosmetics a whirl and try their matte lipstick in Shocking Pink, which appears to have more purple in it than my Tarte Foxy lipstick. Right now Ulta is having a sale on NYX products, online and in-store: buy one get one 50% off. The saleswoman at Ulta told me after I checked out that this lipstick is her absolute favorite. I can’t wait to see if I feel the same way!

Sarah’s Draft Picks

Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow – $8.99

Neutrogena Crease Proof Eye Shadow

With the explosion in popularity in primer, eye shadow has been creasing less and less.  But I love the thought of any eye shadow that already contains a primer, so you’re able to condense two steps into one.  This crease proof eye shadow from Neutrogena caught my eye last week, and I purchased the constant copper to try out.  It’s a lighter color with shimmer to it, but from what I could tell, it didn’t crease at all throughout the day.  I’m curious to see if the darker colors are truly crease free, so I’m drafting one into my rotation.  If it works as well as the lighter colors, this might become a permanent player.  I just hope Neutrogena will expand the line and come out with some matte shades.

Julep DD Cream – $28.80 (36 if you’re not a Julep Maven)

Julep DD Cream

I’ve loved pretty much every product Julep has sent my way, so I’m curious about this Dynamic Do-all creme they are releasing in June.  It’s along the lines of a BB Creme, but they claim it goes beyond BB Creme.  I’m not sure how, but since I’ve had such success with Julep products, I’m going to give this makeup a try at least once.  I’ll make sure to do a review come June!

Stila “In The Garden” Eye Shadow Palette – $39

Stila In The Garden Eye Shadow Palette

I’ve been waiting for the season where lighter and brighter colors are more applicable to purchase this palette, and I think that season is here!  Happy belated first day of spring, by the way.  We officially made it.  And garden-like hues should make their way into every girls cosmetics, whether it’s shadow, lipstick, or polish.  Celebrate the season!

The Honest Company Sunscreen SPF 30 – $13.95

The Honest Company Sunscreen SPF 30

The Honest Company*, co-founded by actress Jessica Alba and Christopher Gavigan, is focused on providing non-toxic products, especially for babies and children.  But their bath & body products are just as good for adults as they are little ones.  This sunscreen, approved for babies under 6 months old, and big babies like me, uses a non-nano zinc oxide to provide UVA & UVB protection.  Non-nano zinc oxide sits on your skin, rather than absorbing into your skin.  Also, this sunscreen does not contain avobenzone, that pesky chemical that, when combined with many laundry detergents, will leave orange stains on lighter colored clothing.  I’ve been looking for a non-toxic, environmentally friendly, affordable sunscreen, and I’m giving this one a go this year!  *signing up for The Honest Company through this link could earn a $20 credit for the full clutch account.  The links for the sunscreen go straight to the site, with no credit codes attached.
