FC Review: Julep DD Creme

Julep DD Creme

Julep DD Crème – $36 (or $28.80 if you’re a Julep Maven)

First there was BB Cream. A Beauty Balm that covered, protected, smoothed, and nourished. Up next was CC Cream, adding in color corrector. And now Julep has thrown it’s hat into the ring with their “DD”, or Dynamic Do-all, Crème. Claimed features and benefits from the Julep website include:

  • SPF 25 provides daily defense from the sun
  • Two patented anti-aging ingredients decrease the appearance of pores and fine lines
  • Hibiscus and olive extracts keep skin hydrated
  • Lightweight, buildable coverage with an ultra-smoothing finish
  • Comes in four shades—light, medium, medium-dark, and dark

So in reading this, it essentially sounds like a BB Cream. What’s the difference?

Julep DD Creme Before & After

Before & After application of Julep’s DD Crème

Well, the coverage is noticeably better than any BB Cream I’ve used, but still finishes naturally. The texture of the creme is more akin to liquid makeup, but the finish is matte like a BB Cream. In the photos above, about an hour passed, but the lighting wasn’t much different to speak of.  I was pretty amazed to see how well the DD Crème covered, especially that cold, red nose of mine. That’s just one layer, about a large pea sized amount, of DD Crème on my face. Pretty impressive Julep!

Julep DD hand application

There was less of a difference when applied to my hand in the sun, but there was less discoloration and imperfection to cover up. Getting back to my face, I don’t have super sensitive skin, but I’ve had many an odd cream cause a zit or two.  I experienced no such sensitivity with this product.  It works great!

If you’re a lighter skin tone, it looks like you’ll have to wait to try this cream out. Currently the Julep website is only offering their DD Crème in their “Medium Dark” and “Dark” shades. I submitted an inquiry through the Julep website as to when the other shades might be available again, and when I get an answer I’ll update this post*.

I’m thoroughly impressed by the performance of this product, and plan to keep it in my beauty rotation! If you’ve experienced the same, or something different, please leave it in the comments…

*Update: Here’s the response I received regarding the availability of the lighter shades of DD Creme~

“At this time, we are unable to give a set date for any polishes or product to come back in stock – they are currently ‘on vacation’. All of our polishes and products are seasonal, so we highly suggest adding any items you are interested in to your wish list so that it’s a bit easier to keep track of their status online.”

Excited to try it! I’m still loving my Too Faced BB Cream, haven’t tried a CC cream yet, and wondering if they’ll just keep going up the alphabet. EE cream?
