Beth’s Summer Beauty Products
Here in the Midwest, we’ve entered the dog days of summer. It has been hot and humid for weeks now. Not that we’re complaining–after a hell of a winter, we welcome the warmer temps. But that means changing up the beauty routine. Here are Beth’s favorite summer beauty products.
1. Nufree Finipil Lait – $14.50
I get a fair number of bikini waxes in the summer months. Finipil is a must-have after these services. It’s a cream that you smooth on after waxing, and every day after the shower, that contains antibacterial properties to fight in-grown hairs, bumps and irritation. It also slows hair regrowth. This product is really quite amazing–if you are prone to irritation along the bikini line, I highly recommend it.
I’ve used this blush for years. It’s a cult favorite in the makeup community because this particular shade–Miel Glace–looks good on many different skin tones. Many of the blushes that I wear on my very pale winter skin doesn’t look quite right on my freckled summer skin. This blush is the exception. It looks good year round, but I most often pull it out for summer.
3. Bumble and bumble Surf Spray – $15
I’ve given up blow-drying my hair. It’s too damn hot, I just can’t subject myself to further sweating. Out of the shower, I comb and then towel dry my hair, then spritz generously with Bumble and bumble Surf Spray, which friend Johanna recommended in this Friend Recommends segment. While my hair is air-drying, I scrunch it occasionally to promote the wave-making properties of the spray. And that’s it. I come away with wavy, slightly frizzy, imperfect hair that looks just right for summer.
4. Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF 30 – $10.99
On July 4th, I spent the whole day on a boat out on a lake. I hadn’t gotten much sun yet, so I was nervous about burning. I applied this sunblock every hour for six hours and didn’t get burned at all. I was also sweating a lot and in and out of the water, so that’s pretty impressive. It also felt nice and light and definitely dried quickly. I wouldn’t recommend this for the face–I got some of it in my eyes and they burned for a good hour despite rinsing them repeatedly with water. I use Paula’s Choice everyday year round for SPF on my face.
I didn’t get much use out of this lip gloss after reviewing it in January. There are so many glosses in my makeup collection, it sort of took a backseat. But this summer I’ve been using it a lot instead of my usual lipsticks. Summer is too carefree for heavy makeup, so lip gloss is a perfect way to get some color and shine without suffocating the lips. I love the subtle color, the beautiful shine, and the non-goopy application.
I reviewed this product previously on full clutch, and I’m still digging it. It’s a really light mineral powder that just takes the edge off of the extreme summer shine so many of us are prone to, without feeling heavy in the heat. It doesn’t dry out my face, and it has an SPF of 25.
7. & 8. Zoya nail polish in Blu – $8 and in Neely – $8
