Close to three years ago the television station I worked for was sold to a publicly owned media group.  As a result 90% of my fellow employees lost their jobs.  I was lucky enough to keep mine.  Fast forward to now, and one of my former co-workers and friend JUST NOW was able to find employment.  It’s brutal out there!  Things are slowly improving, but as shown by my friends experience, it’s taking a LONG time for the job market to come back.  Starbucks and Opportunity Finance Network have joined forces and created “Jobs for USA”, a program to, well, help create jobs in communities that need them!  And Banana Republic is getting in on the action.  Through April 22nd, 5% of all sales purchased with code BRCREATE, or in-store merchandise that is eligible, will be donated to “Jobs for USA”.  BRCREATE will take 25% off most items, including sale items.  Here are a few of the deals we found.

Tailored Striped Shirt in Deep Violet$22.49 & Gracious Grey$29.99 ($59.50)

Tailored fit and vertical stripes slim

There are plenty of sizes left on this sale item, and reviews are nothing but positive.  Shirt is 97% cotton, 3% spandex, but non-iron.  Roomier through the shoulders and chest, but trim through the waist, and princess seams down the front provide a slimming effect.  A great workhorse for the office.

Soft-Wash Fitted Plaid Shirt$33.74 ($44.99)

Howdy Spring!

This pretty lavender color is perfect for spring.  Wear it casually with jeans, or roll up the sleeves and pair with a khaki colored skirt.  Also available in Almond, but only medium left in that color.

Joan Floral Sheath$89.99 ($119.99)

For some this is a bust

Reviews are manic on this dress; Love it!  Hate it!  Best dress!  Worst dress ever!  And it sounds like the problem is the roominess in the bust.  Got a lot up there?  This dress should fit you fine.  Not so much?  Skip this one.  The dress was inspired by Joan on Mad Men, so that could easily explain the ample room up top.  If you’ve got em’ ladies, they’ll fit into this lovely dress!

Safari Pencil Skirt$43.50 ($58)

Probably best for urban safaris

The neutral color of this skirt, called “Dry Mustard”, will work really well with most of the bright colors of the season.  The only review on BR’s site says the hips and waist run small, so you may want to think about sizing up if you’re curvier.  It’s casual enough to be worn with a tank or tee, but can also be dressed up for the office.

Heritage Casual Roll-Up Pant in Washed Stone –$33.74 Sandy Taupe – $44.99 ($79.50)

Straight out of Newsies

With a very relaxed fit and pleats at the waist these pants recall fashion of the twenties.    These are probably going to look best on slim bodies due to the placement of the pleats.  Very fashion forward, and at a great price!

*Update: The Sandy Taupe option is now sold out!

Cabochon Line Bracelet$23.70 ($31.60)

A quick color fix

Need a bright splash of color in a hurry?  This bracelet can do just that for you.  Available in New Dandelion or Purple Star.  One size fits all.
