Going Outfits: Memorial Day Weekend
Many of us will be enjoying a long weekend in remembrance of Memorial Day. This might mean grilling out with family, spending the weekend at the beach, or simply lounging around the house in pajamas. We’ve curated three ensembles to keep you comfortable and stylish for whatever plans you have coming up. And keep in mind that this holiday weekend is a big one for sales, so you might be able to score some of these pieces at even better prices.
Hopefully you’ll get some nice weather in your neck of the woods. Here we have a simple red checked sun dress with a sweetheart neckline (universally flattering), and a full skirt. Pair that with some comfortable wedges–stay away from thinner heels which will sink into grass–in a neutral tone, like the ones by Franco Sarto. For jewelry, a turquoise bangle that will really pop against the red of the dress, with a geometric pattern that echoes the right angles and hard lines of the check pattern. To bring out the silver detailing in the bracelet, add a pair of simple knot earrings in a silver tone. Voila–you’re ready for burgers and vodka-lemonades.
Day at the Lake
J. Crew Whisper Baja Gauze Tunic – $44.99 ($59.50), Gap Tie Bikini Bottoms – $36.95, Gap Gathered Bandeau Top – $38.95, Forever 21 Classic Flip Flops – $2.80, Jules Smith Art Deco 14k Gold-Plated Hoop Earrings – $23.04 ($85)
If you’re headed up to a place on the lake for the weekend, you’ll want to pack the perfect outfit for water fun. This sassy bikini has a tropical leaf pattern. Love the tie bottoms that flatter a variety of figures by allowing you to adjust for perfect fit. The white tunic at left would work great as a cover up when you’re taking a break from the water, or if you’re feeling a little self-conscious about wearing a suit for the first time this year. Simple, cheap, yellow flip flops bring out the yellow in the pattern of the bikini, and yellow gold hoops add a little bit of bling (but remove before diving into the water or getting on the jet skis). Plus, look at that deep discount on 14k gold earrings–sold!
Who are we kidding, the best part of a long weekend is sleeping late and telling responsibilities and obligations to go to hell. If those are your plans, we salute you. And we have a couple suggestions for staying comfy while you eat ice cream from the tub and watch old episodes of Desperate Housewives on Netflix. A striped pajama pant is so classic. I love this version by Calvin Klein; it almost looks like a peppermint stick. The purple camisole brings out the blue tones in the pajama pant, while the fuzzy thong slippers are comfortable without being too warm. Cheers to catching up on your zzz’s!
