FC Lab Review: three moisturizers, one purpose
Last month us girls here at full clutch started a fc lab series reviewing all the products included in the Sun Safety Kit Sephora had available for a limited time. All the kits have since sold, but it contained several small samples of products that you can purchase at Sephora. Beth and I will continue to use and review these products until, well, we’ve gone through them all! So, what are we taking a look at this week? Three different oil free moisturizers that provide sun protection:
Peter Thomas Roth, a company founded in 1993 by it’s namesake, is known for developing breakthrough formulas that get results. I’ll admit, this is the first product I’ve used by this company, but I have to say I really like it. Fragrance free, this all day defense lotion leaves a slight shimmer on your skin when first applied. It’s formulated with lot’s of good things for your skin, like gingko biloba and vitamins A, C, and E, and formulated without many of the harsh chemicals that have caused recent concern. I’d put the consistency of this lotion right above light weight. It does leave behind a slightly greasy feel, which is great for dry or combination skin, but not so great for oily. Clocking in at $42 for 1.7 ounces, this is the most expensive option of the three.
Next we have a daily moisturizer from Philosophy. Of the three products, this one felt the heaviest, I’d put it at a medium weight (even though it’s listed as ultra light). If you’re used to using creamier moisturizers, you’d most likely prefer this one. Fragrance free, although this moisturizer smelled slightly more like sun block than the Peter Thomas Roth. The scent fades almost immediately. Formulated with lots of great antioxidants, and without harsh chemicals. I also really liked this product. Just a good go to for daily sun protection and moisture. This one comes in a 2 ounce tube.
Finally we have the daily hydration from Boscia. This moisturizer is formulated with several botanicals, and thus has a “botanical” scent. It’s very earthy, almost “woodsy”. I didn’t find it overwhelming though, and seeing as the scent comes from natural sources, you needn’t worry about fragrance chemicals. The shine control and pore refinement comes from silica powder and burdock root. My skin is on the dryer side, so I can’t speak to the shine control aspect of this product. Out of the three, it felt the lightest weight. It’s also lower on sun protection factor. I like the feel of this moisturizer, but if I’m putting sun protection on my face I prefer it to be 30 or above. This product comes in a 1.4 ounce bottle.
My favorite out of these three? The Philosophy. With dryer skin I like a moisturizer that feels a bit heavier. And it’s formulated without so many of the offending chemicals I’d be comfortable using it everyday.
