Friend Recommends: Olay Facial Hair Remover

Featured photo credit.

This week we have the brave Addie, friend and fellow writer (in fact, you can check out her amazing blog on the complexities of faith), who dishes on a great facial hair removal product.  Take it away, Addie!

Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo – $24.79 ($30)

What is the name of the product, and where can you get it?

Olay Smooth Finish Facial Hair Removal Duo. (You can buy it at pretty much any store where Oil of Olay products are sold.)

What does the product do?

It uses a simple two-step process to gently remove facial hair (I use it pretty exclusively on my upper lip.) There’s a protecting balm that you rub on first, and then you follow it with the hair removal cream.

How long have you been using it?

On Mother’s Day this year, my 3-year-old son woke up at 5:30 in the morning, just for the sheer evil pleasure of it. When I lay down next to him in his bed to try to get him to fall back to sleep, he looked at me, poked my face, and said, “Hey mom. You got a mustache!” Happy Mother’s Day to me.

Now, let me be clear. I never had, like, an old Italian Grandma kind of mustache. But I’d always felt a little self-conscious about the little bit of hair above my lip. My kid’s innocent little comment was the final straw. I’d seen commercials for Olay’s Facial Hair Removal Duo and bought it shortly after.

Why do you love it?

I like that it’s quick and easy. As a mom of really little kids, I don’t have time for a complex beauty regimen, but the whole thing takes me less than ten minutes, and I only have to do it once a month or so. It’s painless and simple and it just makes me feel a little better about myself.

Sometimes hair removal products irritate the skin.  Do you find that to be the case at all with this product?

I feel like the first time I used this product, it irritated my skin a bit. But since I’ve better mastered the protecting balm to removal cream ratio, I haven’t had a problem.

Why is it different from other products you’ve used?

I’ve never used a hair removal product before, so I can’t really compare. But I don’t really see any reason I would switch. It does the job perfectly!

I have what I fondly refer to as “The Goat”, who lives on and around my chin and lips. While my hair is really blond, it does look shockingly bright and noticeable in the right natural light. I’ve been thinking about doing the laser hair removal, but I hear it doesn’t work on light colored hair; I’ll definitely have to give this a try, and sacrifice The Goat once and for all.

Does this last for a while eventually? I use electrolysis for one or two fuzzies on my chin from a doctor who lovingly took out a few while he gave me some stitches years back (Thanks doc!). If you use it long enough, does Olay say you’ll have to use it less? Or will it be a continual thing?
