Holiday Weekend Shopping

Feature photo credit

Even though the 4th lands on a Wednesday, this is the weekend for 4th of July sales.  Man, EVERYONE is blowing out their summer stock right now!  Get ready to start seeing fall styles hitting the shelves.  I can smell the pumpkin pie and feel the crisp air… well actually, I can’t feel the crisp air, seeing as the HEAT IS ON around the country right now.  So summer sales are mighty welcome, because it’s going to be a hot one!  Here are a few to catch this weekend, and a couple of picks from each…

L.L. Bean & L.L. Bean Signature – Summer Sale, up to 60% to 75% off select styles
Stretch Silk Tank – $39.99 ($79)
Gabardine Ankle Pant – $59.99 ($129)
Sateen Sleeveless Dress – $64.99 ($179)
Poplin Skirt – $39.99 ($65)

The great thing about the L.L. Bean sites is they offer free shipping.  You do have to pay to return though, so be aware.  Most of the items above can carry you right into fall.  The poplin skirt, maybe not so much.  It is offered in a red color that would be more fall appropriate, but once the weather cools I doubt you’ll want to wear it.  The stretch silk tank is a great layering piece.  The gabardine pants can get tucked into boots, and the sleeveless silk dress can be layered up with a cardigan and looks awesome with boots as well.

GAP – Red Bright + Blue Sale, up to 40% off, ends Wed. 7/4 online, Sunday 7/8 in store
Sailboat Graphic T – $10 ($24.95)
Classic Khaki Pants – $35 ($49.95)
Printed Sweatshirt T – $31.46 ($44.95)
Braided wedge sandal – $52.46 ($69.95)

All solid picks from the GAP.  There are several fun bright graphic (and plain) T’s on sale for $10 right now.  The khakis are just a classic.  I really like that short sleeved sweatshirt T.  It’s looks super comfortable, and the print makes it much more interesting than a plain T.  The braided wedge sandal is just a good go-to summertime shoe.  A reminder, free shipping kicks in at $50 in cart with the GAP, but you can combine items from the other GAP Inc. brands in your cart to reach that threshold.  Speaking of another GAP brand…

Old Navy – July 4th Sale, In store & online, ends Sunday, 7/1
Open-Stitch Dolman Sweater – $22 ($24.94)
Chiffon-Trim Pintucked Tank – $5.99 to $8.99 ($16.94)
Chevron-Stripe Skirt – $17.50 ($26.94)
Belted Cap-Sleeve Dress – $19 ($24.94)

Good lord, Old Navy is cheap.  You often get what you pay for, but I have some items from Old Navy that have lasted me years.  The dolman sweater isn’t on that great of sale, but even at regular prices it’s a steal!  The pintucked tank is a sweet and simple summer staple.  The chevron skirt is tailor made to rock on the 4th, and the sweet cap sleeve dress comes in a very fun printed pink as well.

Express – $15 off $75, $30 off $150, $45 off $225, $60 off $300, & 30% off clearance
Chiffon Halter Maxi Dress – $88
Dolman Blouse – $49.90 (all tops buy one get one for $15)
Double V-Neck Wedge Tee – $29.90 (all tops buy one get one for $15)
Multi Strap High Wedge Sandal – $35.94 ($59.90)

Express is running a tiered discount sale through July 4th; the more you spend, the more they’ll take off your final bill.  And there are a few offers within the site as well;  buy one, get one at a discounted price.  Take for example the two tops picture above.  You can buy one at $49.90, and get the second one for $15.  All tops are discounted like this, presumably through the 4th.  Express is also taking an additional 30% off already discounted clearance, but clearance items will not count towards the tiered discount.  A tip on the apparel pictured; pair the sandals with the maxi dress for a fun look.  Randomly, the sandals only come in full sizes.  Perhaps that’s why they are discounted (not on clearance though, they’ll count towards the tiered sale)?

Since Beth gave us some great picks from from the Banana Republic sale currently running, I’ll refer you that way to check that sale out.

If you run across a great sale, please post it in the comments below.  Enjoy your long weekend!  And thanks to those of you that work in retail so we can take advantage of these sales.  I used to work in retail, I know how it goes.  Good luck!
