FC Lab: St. Tropez Self Tanner
Hey sunbunnies, it’s the last of the products from the Sephora Sun Safety Kit! Following Sarah’s lead from last week, I’m reviewing the St. Tropez Everyday Gradual Tan for Body. In my misspent youth I used a lot of self tanner as I’m both pale and worried about sun damage. So I was interested to see how this product would work.
I have nothing but good things to say about this product. The sample I got was Medium/Dark which immediately worried me since, as I’ve mentioned, I’m so pale. But despite the dark tone, it never looked odd or orange. I took a look at the other reviews on Sephora, and many other consumers with pale skin mentioned the same thing.
This product is creamy, like a lotion, which I’ve never used for a self tanner. My go-to back in the day was a foam by Neutrogena, which I see they no longer make. I’ve always experienced foams to be easier to apply, faster to dry, and less likely to streak. But this lotion was great. It went on smoothly and evenly and after about three days I began to see the difference. I’m also happy to see that St. Tropez actually makes a foam (which they call a mousse), which you can get here.
If you decide to use this product, or any self tanner, I recommend exfoliating in the shower with a loofah (fyi, shaving your legs also exfoliates them), then applying a light moisturizer to your toweled off, but still damp skin, and then immediately applying the self tanner. Rub in well, using different strokes to get every inch of skin (though I typically skip my back since it’s so hard to reach and no one sees it anyway). Don’t forget areas like the top of the foot–you don’t want to stop at the ankle or you’ll get a funky farmer’s tan. And wash your hands afterwards!
We’ve reached the end of the SS Kit products! Next week Sarah and I co-author a post in which we pick our fave of the bunch! Stay tuned…
