Mary Jane, what a gal!

No, we’re not talking about illegal drugs.  We’re talking about Mary Janes, the darling pump with a strap across the top of the foot.  The Mary Jane is at times more popular, other times less popular, but it never goes out of style.    A few of our favorite modern Mary Janes to follow…

Vince Camuto Vionet Pumps – $79.90 ($128.95)

We start off with a gem from the Nordstrom anniversary sale.  These pumps feature a super chunky heel.  The chunky heel is not my favorite aesthetic, but I love the patent gleam and that classic skinny strap.  Plus, a chunkier heel means more comfort, so these may be a good option for those who don’t typically wear heels.  Limited sizes, so snap them up!

Poetic Licence The Right Stripes Pump – $47.50-$99

Oh Poetic Licence, you quirky shoe maker.  These Willy Wonka-striped Mary Janes are frivolous and fun.  This is my idea of a chunky heel–thick where the heel meets the sole, then tapering down.  Very comfortable but still elegant.  Granted, these shoes are not versatile, but if you can hit the jackpot with your color/size combination, you may be able to get these pumps for a steal.  Then you can trot them out when you’re feeling whimsical.

Via Spiga Macey Pump – $89.97 ($198) FINAL SALE

Look at these little oddball shoes.  They sort of remind me of witch shoes or something.  But I find them bizarrely charming, and they’re really a good deal.   A very skinny stiletto heel (not for beginners) and a pointy toe.  There’s something almost 2-dimensional about these shoes, they’re so minimalist.  Not everyone’s taste, but surely someone out there wants to give them a try?  Note: be very sure about your shoe size; these are final sale.

Joan & David Quimberly Pump – $129.90 ($199.95)

Another shoe from the Nordstrom sale.  This is the kind of shoe I wish I could wear but I just can’t deal with that high a heel–I think the balls of my feet would snap in two.  But I love the silhouette, the colors, and the stacked platform.  Really a beautiful Mary Jane with a very modern twist.  Pretty pricey even on sale, but there are a ton of sizes available.

Nine West Got the Memo Mary Jane – $89

A Mary Jane wedge with a captoe!  Combining all your favorite trends into one single shoe–Nine West is good.  Wedges are supremely comfortable and easy to walk in.  If you want to start wearing pumps but aren’t sure where to start, a wedge will serve you well.  These cuties have the MJ strap across the foot to ensure a great fit–if you have a narrow heel and your feet often slip out of shoes, Mary Janes are a great solution for you.

Miz Mooz Dulce Flat – $45-$99.99

Okay.  These aren’t my faves.  BUT, I know people love their flats, and I wanted to give a comfortable option for people who run around all day on their little tootsies.  These also have a cute button detail on the toe that I just love.

ALL BLACK Fish Bow Mary Jane Pump – $119

My friends, this shoe is a cautionary tale.  Several months ago when I was writing the cap toe post, I stumbled upon these pumps.  Expensive?  Yes.  Delicious? Yes.  So I bought them…this is how you go broke as a style writer.  I love these shoes.  I had to send them back several times to get the right size–these guys are bizarrely shaped with a narrow, ski jump toe.  So they run really small unless you have very narrow feet.  But they’re darling and unique and I always get compliments on them.  Love that they’re made into a Mary Jane with a mere ribbon.
