If you’re not familiar with ModCloth.com, consider yourself informed. This website features unique, often vintage-inspired clothing, accessories and housewares. Prices vary widely, from ball gowns for $250, to sundresses for $39. Because they curate clothing from a variety of designers, there’s not a set cut or sizing, which can be frustrating, but if you’re willing to deal with exchanges and returns from time to time, the pay off can be big. Many of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe are from ModCloth. Another thing I love about ModCloth is the community–many of the people who shop there return again and again, and they write detailed reviews of the clothing so you can figure out before you buy, is this likely to fit/flatter my body? While they always have sale items, from time to time they clean house. Now is that time. Lots of stuff, great prices, a variety of sizes–check it out!
Swept Up in Love Dress – $76.99 ($257.99)
First up is this ethereal pink, cream, and gray number. The colors are so great together, and it looks like it would be a flattering silhouette on most figures. The halter ties at the back of the neck. The comments indicate that you may have to have the bottom hemmed depending on your height–it’s quite long–but at such a deep discount, it might be worth taking it to your tailor.
Lace the Music Hall Dress – $40.99 ($57.99)
A more casual dress, this lovely sky-blue frock features a sheath underneath and a lace overlay. Reading the reviews, it sounds like this dress looks best on smaller women. Pair with nude heels and pearl jewelry for a ladylike look, or with cropped leggings and flats for a more informal look.
By the Bookstore Cardigan – $48.99 ($69.99)
Okay, so this sweater sort of screams Great Aunt Edna…but it’s still darling. If you like little details, the sewn flowers and scalloped neckline are really sweet. Wear with harder elements so that you don’t end up looking like a priss. For instance, with tight black skinnies tucked into knee-high boots.
Captain Out of Ten Top – $27.99 ($39.99)
This cute, relatively simple tee has a great silhouette. Loose arms and a little bit of a bell shape at the bottom to accommodate and flatter the hips. The fabric provides stretch for a more precise fit, too. Though you could pair with jeans on the weekend to go super casual, I could also envision this top under a blazer and paired with dress pants for a professional look with a whimsical touch.
Stylish Selection Skirt – $34.99 ($69.99)
When I see this lacey, sort of gothic-inspired confection, I am reminded of Lydia from Beetlejuice. Layers of black lace poofing out from a black waistband–this would be a unique piece for your wardrobe. Unfortunately, this is available in a small only, so all you petite ladies take advantage!
Wowie Zowie Heel in Tapestry – $107.99 ($154.99)
Wouldn’t this shoe be great for a bride? Kind of makes me wish I weren’t married (just kidding, dear). Actually, I’d wear it now, wedding or no wedding. A gold and white brocade covers the toe, topped with a lucite bow, then linen on the sides and what looks like white leather at the heel. So unusual and so beautiful. It’s taken all my willpower not to order up this bad boy. Sigh…
Sophisticated Lady Heel – $54.99 ($109.99)
Another showstopper. That is 5.5 inches of shoe glory. (Although it will only feel like 2.25 because another 2.25 is on the platform.) Another shoe I’ll sadly never own–these would make me over 6′ tall, which is too much for me. But Seychelles is a great brand. They make comfortable, stylish, high quality shoes. So if you like a lot of height, these are for you.
Weekend Brunch Bag – $37.99 ($54.99)
To end our selection, this ice cream colored shoulder bag (with removable strap). This is great for daytime, the workweek, or a coffee date with friends. Simple and very affordable.
