Flats: A Shoe Of Transition

Featured photo credit

I know of a couple of women, including Beth (who writes for this site) that don’t like to wear flats.  I had a friend in California tell me it was actually painful for her to wear flats.  I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum; more often than not it’s painful for me to wear heels (especially spiked), so flats are a big go to for me.  And flats are a great way to transition from late summer to fall.  Once the weather cools down a bit and your feet don’t need the air flow that sandals provide, flats are a fun way to make a statement about your style.  But unlike booties and boots, they usually cover less of your feet, making them a little cooler for those still temperate days.  They look good with just about everything.  If you are of the high arch sisterhood then flats may not be for you, but us flat footed ladies look to flats as an everyday go to.  Let’s see what stylish options are floating around out there that lean a little out of the norm…

Belle2 by Belle by Sigerson Morrison – $77.98 ($195)

. . .

The basket weave on of this shoe definitely makes it lean warmer weather, but the colors can carry it into fall.   The contrasting colors are orange and purple.  Halloween, anyone?  I don’t think you’d catch a witch wearing these though.  Marked down from the steep retail price these started at, but these are final sale through Piperlime, so if you buy them, you’re stuck with them.

Rocket Dog Monica Houndstooth Flat – $34.95

. . .

Fun, and definitely fall style forward.  You don’t ever really see houndstooth on spring and summer fashions, unless it’s done in bright colors.  The classic black and white pairing make these a perfect compliment for solid color dresses and pants.  These ship from DSW, and if you’re a rewards member, shipping is free at $35 (signing up to be a rewards member is free).  Of course, these fall right under that shipping threshold.  Throw a pair of clearance socks on your order and you’re good to go.

Bold Your Attention – $32.99

. . .

Wow, look at the colors on these flats from ModCloth!  Bright jewel tones perfect for fall, and that darker bow will tie them in to a darker outfit.  All materials are man made.  In the U.S. ModCloth offers free shipping at $50, so you mine as well add something like this Time Stands Teal Scarf to hit that mark.

Fossil Maddox Metallic Flat – $79

. . .

Great workplace flats that will add something extra to a tame outfit.  Only drawback for me is the Fossil logo on the buckle, but it won’t be noticeable unless someone is scrutinizing your shoes.  You could also pair these with dark denim, a white button up blouse, and a blazer for a sleek look.

Franco Sarto ‘Model’ Peep Toe Flat – $78.95

. . .

Here is a dressier flat from Franco Sarto, but don’t be afraid to pair it with nice denim.  I love the detail on the back of this shoe (click on the pic for more views).  This flat has a hidden wedge built in, for a slight step up in your height.  Comes in the red shown, black, and a very deep blue called “ocean”.  Ships free, and returns free, from Nordstrom.

C LABEL Elaine-3A Oxford – $45.95

. . .

Whoa!  These little oxfords are wild, but I’m sure some of you ladies can easily pull them off.  They’re also available in red, and the more traditional black and brown cheetah print.  Leather upper with a man made sole, and ships through Amazon.

AEO Bow Ballet Flats – $29.95

. . .

Simple bow ballet flats, like these offered by American Eagle Outfitters, and a great basic to have in your closet.  The bow makes them feminine, and the ballet toe makes them sweet.  These come in five different colors, and are so affordable you might want to stock up on more than one color.

Sacha London Coreen T-Strap Flat – $59.57

. . .

These are available in very limited sizes, but I love the style so much I had to share them.  Technically, they have kitten heel, so I don’t know if they’re a flat.  But they are as flat as a heel is going to get.  This shoe has a very art deco feel to it.  Right up my alley, but not available in my size.  Why do you frown upon me shoe gods?

Poetic Licence Lovely Surprise Flat – $79

. . .

Another flat with VERY limited sizes available, but Poetic Licence shoe’s have been featured on full clutch before for good reason.  Kitschy style, even on the inside lining, sets these shoes apart.  Also available in a lovely pansy print with purple detail.

Cole Haan Cody Oxfords – $94.99 ($158)

. . .

Lately oxfords have not been just for the boys.  And here is a pair of delightful oxfords to prove that.  They have a very retro look, but also look very lightweight.  These should probably be kept in the closet on rainy days.

MeMoi Ankle Tie Lace Liner – $4.94

. . .

Not shoes, but a funky, yet feminine way to add a liners to flats.  Super cheap too!  These ship from DSW, and are a great way to bump you over the free shipping threshold if you need it.
