Warming Up With Target

I always look forward to the Target ad in my newspaper every Sunday.  Every now and then it will disappoint, but normally not.  And as I’m in the market for a few new coats, I was very excited about the winter sale happening right now at Target.  Coats, scarves, hats, gloves… everything that is GREAT about winter is on sale.  Well, almost everything.  Sweaters  are not included, but due to my cardigan obsession I couldn’t help picking one up today.  As I made my way through Target I tried some things on, felt fabrics, and made some mental notes.  Here are some of the pieces that stood out to me…

Merona® Womens Double Breasted Classic Peacoat – $35 ($49.99)

. . .

This coat is probably the best deal of the sale.  Yes, it’s just a classic peacoat, but it’s well constructed for a $35 coat.  61% wool for warmth, and a nice big collar to protect your neck if needed.  They seem to run a little big, especially for someone like me with a petite torso.  But lucky for us petite girls, Target actually offers this coat in petite sizes.  Available in FIFTEEN colors (six in petites)!  Think this is a best seller for Target?  I’d say so.

Xhilaration® Knit Trim Bomber Faux Leather Jacket  - $35 ($39.99)

. . .

I was bummed my local Target didn’t have a size in this jacket to fit me.  Even a size too small for me, this jacket was super cute (not being able to zip it up was a deal breaker)!  Fortunately, it’s on Target’s website available in all sizes.  The thing about these faux leather jackets (just like the real ones) is that there is NO give to the material.  If you hate giving hugs or crossing your arms, a size too small might work for you.  But if mobility in your movement is important, order your true size, or even size up, on these jackets.

Merona® Women’s Toggle Coat – $50 ($59.99)

. . .

Yep, that’s me at right, sporting the Toggle Coat.  Despite the arms being too long for me, I really like this coat.  It doesn’t have princess seams, but the fit isn’t too boxy.  I’d say the fit is straight.  It’s a nice weight, and the hood is a bonus.  You couldn’t  just throw this on over a t-shirt in the winter and be comfortably warm, but over a sweater it would definitely work.

Merona® Water Repellent Classic Trench Coat – $40 ($49.99)

. . .

This time of year, when there is more rain than snow in the mix, trenches can come in mighty handy.  When I was at my local Target today they were just bringing these out onto the floor.  I didn’t get the chance to try one on, but I did feel the material as I was passing by, and it seemed sturdy.  Reviews on Target.com so far are all positive.  Available in six colors.

Merona® Womens Single Breasted Coat with Fur Collar – $70 ($79.99)

. . .

Look at this sassy lady!  And then there’s the girl wearing the coat.  Wow, she looks happy!  Bet it’s because her coat is so freaking cute.  This coat is a cotton polyester blend, but the the fabric is heavyweight construction.  If I recall correctly, I did feel the fabric on this garment today, and it was thick.  Is the fur a deal breaker for you?  No worries, you can remove it.

Merona Gray Soft Knit Brim Hat – $10.39 ($12.99)

. . .

Keep your head cozy, and snowflakes off your face, as long as the wind is calm, with a soft knit cap like this one.  Also a good hat to wear under a hood.  Available in seven great colors.

Merona Felt Cloche – $13.59 ($16.99)

. . .

If you’re looking for something slightly more refined, check out these felt cloche hats.  A stylish way to keep your head warm this winter.  And with all the great colors, they should continue right on into spring with you!

Merona Winter Scarves – $8-$12.74 ($10 – $14.99)

. . .

Of course you need a scarf to go with your new coat.  I picked up a couple great ones today, but they were more in the realm of “fashion” scarves (not on sale) rather than winter.  But the price is right on the Merona winter scarves, they’d make great stocking stuffers.

Merona Leather Gloves – $17.59 ($21.99)

. . .

I purchased these mustard yellow gloves from my local Target today.  There were so many colors available in store, but I can’t find these anywhere on Target.com.  Perhaps they just haven’t put them into inventory online yet?  Regardless, the selection of leather gloves in-store is much better than online right now.  If you’re looking for some leather gloves in other than basic black, head into your local Target.  They come in S/M and L/XL sizes.  They seem like they will be fairly warm.  Update: Jewel toned gloves are now available online!  Ask and you shall receive…

Target usually runs their sales Sunday to Saturday, so if you see a price you like, make sure to make your purchase this week, or way for that really big shopping day coming up later this month…

If anyone lives in Minneapolis, be sure to check out the downstairs at the Salvation Army on North 4th Street. Target sends all their “samples” there and you can get great jackets (and everything else) for prices even lower than Target’s sale prices. I got my last fall jacket there a few years ago and am still getting compliments on it. It’s a great secret to get in on!
