Quick Sparkle Fixes For New Year’s Eve

So, you have a New Year’s Eve party coming up, but haven’t had the time to figure out what to wear, nor do you have a lot of money to spend on a new ensemble. Fear not. New Year’s Eve is all about shiny, sparkly things, and you can easily find some small, and inexpensive pieces, that can even dress up t-shirt and jeans. Behold…
A shiny scarf is one of the easiest, and warmest ways, to add a bit of bling to even a casual outfit. You may already have one hanging out in your closet. Even if not, around this time of year, you can pick one up for a steal. Try stores like Target, Urban Outfitters, or the queen of cheap and sparkly, Forever 21. And if you want to add even more shine and sparkle to your neck, add some…
Pearls or Beads
You could very easily be set on the bead front already. Have a stash of Mardi Gras beads hanging out somewhere in your closet? New Year’s might be the perfect time to layer them up. You can mix them with metal chains to create a cool look. Pearls, whether real or fake, are another way to add some subdued, yet glamorous shine to an outfit. Something already layered, like the necklace from Forever 21 above, takes care of wrapping lots of baubles around your neck in one fail swoop.
Belts That Sparkle
Merona Chunky Glitter Belt – $12.99
How often are you going to wear a really sparkly belt? Perhaps girls night out, or another occasion that calls for sparkle. Likely, it’ not going to make it into your everyday wardrobe (if it does, you belong on stage!). That’s why Target is a great place to get sparkly belts. Prices are low, so you won’t have buyers remorse spending $15 on a belt that only sees the light of day every now and then. In all reality this time of year, stores are trying to clearance out their sparkly belts, since sparkle is traditionally associated with the holidays. You should be able to find a great deal, possibly for under $10!
You can also let your legs do some of the work with some shiny or sparkly tights worn under a dress, skirt, or even wool shorts. The metallic grey pair shown at left is from Forever 21, and has a gold plaid design running throughout. The middle pair are from Kohl’s, where I have no doubt you should be able to find some sort of shiny pair of tights in store for a bargain. The final pair at right are from Topshop, and much more expensive, but much more elaborate. A very fun pair to have on hand for the holidays!
Don’t forget about the sparkly accessories you can add to your hair. Beaded or rhinestoned headbands and barrettes are a super fast way to dress up your look. Throw some feathers in the mix, and you look ready to party! You can also use shiny or sparkly hair ties. Modcloth is a great place for unique hair accessories, though you won’t be able to get them in time for New Year’s this time around.
And of course, we can’t forget the shine and sparkle that makeup can add to your look. From eyeshadow to lipgloss, a little shine with makeup can go a long way. Or you can go with an all out glitter look on your eyes, like in the Birchbox tutorial shown above. Have any other great makeup tutorials to share? Just stick a link in the comments!
Have fun glamming it up, a little or a lot, this New Year’s Eve!
